2% vs. 98%. Shut the fuck up and listen.

i am so fucking fed up with the very common response made by “totally sensitive, understanding” dudes when talking about rape that, “yeah rape is bad, but lets not forget its not JUST a male perpetrated crime.” are you fucking kidding me? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Rape is a problem with men, not women.  it hurts to hear the truth, dudes. but you know what also hurts? living in a society that basically assures you that you and/or many women close to you WILL (not might) be raped or sexually assaulted by a man. You know, because 98% of reported rapes (and its estimated that only 20% of all rapes are actually reported) are committed by men. You know, because patriarchy does exist. The gender binary does exist. Because male dominance and entitlement is constantly reinforced and celebrated within our society. Because as a group, men hold women, as a group, into a subordinate position. That’s why is seems totally cool for some dudes to bring up that TWO FUCKING PERCENT of rape is committed by women. Like that somehow stands up to the other almost 100% done by men? This isn’t a fucking contest. This isn’t a fucking way for women to just rag on men. The “women rape too” argument doesn’t work. It only serves to buffer men from a really difficult truth about their gender. The truth being that men are taught fucked up ways to express their masculinity. That men are the rapists. The fact that they either must fight against their privilege or be complicit with the torture and degradation of every woman in their life. No exceptions.

2% vs. 98%. Shut the fuck up and listen.

"Queer doesn’t mean “don’t label me,” it means “I am naming myself.” It means “ask me more questions if you[‘re] curious” and in the same breath means “fuck off."

"Many men who harass women say their intent is to compliment them, but why do they usually not “compliment” women who are accompanied by other men and often only do it when a woman is alone? Why do they tend to object to other men “complimenting” their female significant other (if applicable), female friends, or female family members? Why do some men grow hostile and violent when women do not thank them and act flattered? Why do they feel compelled to compliment women at all? Rarely are they expecting a date. Many times they do not even wait to see a woman’s reaction as they fly by in their car or as they turn to start harassing the next woman. They are doing it to exert their power, to entertain their friends, to relieve boredom, or do demonstrate that they can evaluate a complete stranger to her face, just because she is a woman."
